Located at the southern-most tip of the Sydney Opera House, a series of concrete buttresses designed by Jorn Utzon rise high above this dramatic dining encapsulated in walls of glass against the Sydney skyline. One of the world's most beautiful settings, namely the Sydney Opera House, is the backdrop for a very astute dining room composed of chocolate colored banquettes and futuristic club chairs that play off the modern theme of the overall location. On the upper level of the restaurant is Bennelong Bar, a grown-up cocktail bar with slightly-more touristy scene of harbor-gawkers enjoying a cocktails like the Madame Butterfly and Puccini.
The Food
Praised by virtually every dimension of Sydney food press, the restaurant serves a heralded menu by chef Peter Gilmore since 2014 of contemporary Australian cuisine with a French twist. Locally sourced meat and produce define a starter menu of freshly shucked oysters, scallops on a bed of cauliflower puree and asparagus served with spanner crab and truffle. Main course, taken from the Fall 2010 menu, includes sealed John Dory with per puree, tortellini of peas in light herb butter and Grimaud duck roasted with endive, leg confit croquette and foie gras puree.
